Pinar&Viola said goodbye today. They packed their Diva's and Schrank is left empty.

Diva Opaque - Anonymous Guardians of Intimacy is a collection of found images belonging to scarf_whiz80. This eccentric collection varies from snapshots, carefully manipulated pictures and skillful photomontages, all portraying veiled divas.

Scarf_whiz80 cherishes the veil in his very own perception. In contradiction with today’s sensational hijab-hype, scarf_whiz80 glorifies the headscarf. From silk to satin, from lace to chiffon, he manifests the veil as an object obscure, shielding beauty from the beholder. The images depict strong women who seem decided to keep their transparency unique to their private relations. scarf_whiz80 idolizes these women as the Anonymous Guardians of Intimacy.

Pinar&Viola discovered the bewildering collection on the internet by accident, and fully embraced scarf_whiz80’s skillfully crafted uncanny vision. In his collection, Pinar&Viola observe a critique on societal norms of gender, race, religion and sexuality, including destructions of stereotypes and ideologies. With today’s expansion of identity politics and the booming prosecution of middle-class, narrow-minded morality in the discourses of popular culture and public policy, Pinar&Viola state the veil as the neo black. quoted from www.pinar-viola.com

Pinar & Viola - Opening

Job Wouters introduced me to the work of Pinar&Viola about a year ago. I fell for them at the first glance of the Tolerance Strikes Back poster and realized their light boxes at Central Station had already stopped me more than once. Past summer we had a dinner in my garden and I was impressed with their power and extreme motivated passion.

I was waiting for the right moment to ask them for a Schrank8 exhibition because their work was simply too big to fit into the cabinet. But when they offered to make an installation especially for the cabinet it was the right moment. Pinar&Viola realized a super exciting cabinet, with the collection Diva Opaque - Anonymous Guardians of Intimacy. I'm very grateful for what they accomplished and the cabinet looks great!

They turned out to be amazing quote makers, able to turn every occasion into a memorable event and on top of that they are great fun to be with. If you ever need a pep-talk, you should definitely go see these girls. But most of all, if you're ever in need of a strong visual statement (or Ecstatic Surface Design as they call it), thorough image research or a stain glass window design, head for this designer duo. And the opening was as great as they are.

Pinar & Viola - In Progress

Pinar&Viola are currently setting up the Diva Opaque collection in my living room cabinet. This 6th Schrank edition is promising to become a very feminine, sensual, almost aggressive and political edition. This Friday Pinar&Viola will reveal the Diva Opaque collection. I'm very delighted they arranged Emile Zile a.k.a. DJ Bushdoof to provide the music, which definitely make this opening into a party.
